In connection with the America 250 Celebration, the African American Gallery’s newest exhibit will spotlight the history of the Jefferson-Horton American Legion Post 340. The exhibit will go on display Sunday, May 3 from 2-4:00 pm and will be on display until Sunday, August 30.
This exhibit will highlight the history, impact, and legacy of Jefferson-Horton American Legion Post 340, chartered in 1939, and the role local veterans have played in shaping the Rockford community.
Through photographs, historical artifacts, personal stories, and educational displays, visitors will explore the contributions of veterans across generations—from World War II to present day service members. The exhibit will also highlight the American Legion’s mission of service to veterans, youth mentorship, and civic leadership.
On Sunday, May 3 at 2:30 pm, members of the Jefferson Horton Post will host a special presentation highlighting their history and accomplishments. This event is free to the public but donations will be greatly appreciated. Light refreshments will be available.
