In celebration of October as Italian Heritage Month, the Ethnic Heritage Museum has scheduled three guest speakers, each of whom will share their cultural experiences and insights that shaped and influenced their lives. Topics range from food and travel to art and genealogy and visitors will have the opportunity to gain insights into the Italian culture. All events take place on Sunday afternoons.

Local Genealogist, Steve Salvato, is bringing his expertise to the Heritage Museum Park! You don't want to miss this hands-on Genealogy Workshop. Steve will lead you through the process of researching your family and your heritage.

There is so much information out there! How do you know where to begin? Steve will help you navigate the numerous resources and websites that contain the information to help you on the journey to uncovering your past. From free resources, to paid, there is so much information you can find.

Bring your own laptop or tablet in order to get started on your search.

Learning about your genealogy is important for many reasons, varying for each individual. Here is a list of just some of the reasons understanding your history (and the history of your ancestors) can be so crucial:
  • Preserve family traditions or cultures
  • Life advice
  • Develop more compassion
  • A deeper understanding of some of the "why's"
  • Reconnect with, or find, family
  • Resilience
  • Involvement in historical events
  • Medical Conditions
  • Confirm (or disprove) family tales and stories
  • Preserve your family Legacy by 'Sharing Your Story'

This is YOUR story. It is 100% unique, just like you. We look forward to helping you kickstart your family's ancestry story.
Genealogy is defined as: A line of descent traced continuously from an ancestor, i.e. the study and tracing of lines of descent.
And family history is defined as: The history of a family; a narrative about this. In later use also: the study of the history of a family or families; genealogy as an area of research.

This event is made possible through the support of the Winnebago & Boone Counties Genealogical Society.
